People across Canada and the United States are gathering on that day to show their concern about global climate change and to demand the goverments start taking some serious steps (no pun intended).

And, the Carnival Band will be playing. :)

I think it would be great if people could silly walk over to the Art Gallery- draw some attention!

"Flashmob" Political

Sort of not what I think of as a flashmob, but I'll repost it here:

IMPEACH! on the Beach...

IMPEACHMENT FLASHMOB (1,200 people plus helicopter), Sat, Jan 6, Ocean Beach, San Francisco, 10:30 a.m.

On Saturday, January 6, 2007 (just two days after the new US Congress convenes), 1,200 people will gather for a (Park Service-permitted) impeachment event in Nancy Pelosi s back yard -- on Ocean Beach in San Francisco.

Early that morning, in 100-foot letters stretching 450 feet across the sand, volunteers from the Beach Impeach Project will outline the message:

I M P E A C H !

At 10:30 a.m., the 1,200 attendees will arrive and lay their bodies down inside the message s lettering. At 11 o clock a helicopter will arrive overhead and photographers will record the 1,200 bodies in the sand -- IMPEACH! -- with the San Francisco skyline and the Golden Gate Bridge in the background.

News editors will have compelling photos for the next morning s Sunday papers; the nation and world will have convincing evidence of how badly the American people (even Ms. Pelosi s own constituency) want their leaders held accountable for the Iraq disaster; and the impeachment movement will have powerful visuals to go with the words and chatter swirling in the air for months and months now.

To participate, please take 60 seconds to register yourself and your friends. If 1,200 people register in advance, this will be not just a frolic at the beach, but a NEWS story (the media are already interested). Also, I can communicate via just one email with all who are registered, instead of 1,200 emails. Please take 60 seconds to register:
-- go to www.volunteerforchange.org
-- hit "View the event calendar"
-- go down to "Saturday 1/6/07 -- Beach Impeach Project" (we're that day's only event)
-- follow the signup directions (takes about 60 seconds)

Ghosting San Francisco

So I'm thinking of a Flash Mob / Performance Art piece striking the city of San Francisco on Tuesday, October 31st 2006. Currently the thought is to have people that wish to participate get a plain white bed sheet or anything they can make a ghost costume out of to wear on Halloween night. The idea is to have all the participants leave work (between 5pm and 6pm) in their Ghostly outfits, the target is all of downtown SF from work to any Bart station located down Market street and disperse accordingly to where people live or get off of the Bart.... this idea can even extend to include Buses.

I'd like to get other peoples thought about this, it's really all in good spirits and innocent fun, but before I start to really promote the idea and get it organized, ideas and suggestions would be awesome.

Please join me in this quest, I've created a tribe to help the discussion and get the ball rolling here:

Worldwide Street Fashion Website

I just started a world wide street fashion website and I'm looking for contributors from all over the world. My interpretation of Street Fashion is not just the popular Japanese trend but anything and everything people come up with that is an infusion of creativity, taste and individuality. The photos don't need to be high quality professional.. in fact id prefer they were photos of people walking down the street in their daily clothing being caught off guard or even interviewed with a few questions about their style. Once the site has more content it will be a hub for traveling to these Cities and countries featured with street fashion, including: resources for cheap hostels, boutiques in the area with modern or vintage clothing, advice for beauty and fashion and a forum for people to talk about their cities and styles. Contributions are unpaid unfortunately for now, I'm a college student myself just experimenting with an idea; but if you have a love of fashion and new and creative ideas and designs, please help us out!!!

Ciao!!

two ideas

have one guy running frantically, being chased by a big gang of like 30+ people. eventually they'd catch him, swarm him and put a beating on him (fake of course). this would be good to do somewhere where there's a lot of open spaces, like golden gate park. you could also do the reverse- have one guy chasing the gang. eventually he'd catch them and put a beating on them, proving that safety in numbers thing wrong once and for all!

my other idea is just to have a mob congregate to starbucks and all use the same name. they wouldn't all come in the store at the same time and they wouldn't order the same thing - that would be too obvious and flash mobey. but i thought of it the other day when i was one of three mikes in a row.

go and click on FILES and open the word documents for Cupid Song
book or print from the website
http://www.geocities.com/cupidcacophony/home
You don’t HAVE to sing.....but cupid would love to have a chorus
for this cacophony
A map in word format is also in the files section.

****Schedule / Agenda (open to interpretation and adjustment)
******************
Times are approximate!
Get the cell phone number of someone you know who is going if
you need to catch up with us later. Goddess Cupid will have a phone but
no guarantees that the darn thing will work or I’ll hear it over all
the hoopla. Once we are in the bars, I most likely won’t hear it.
410*209*7663

2:00 pm – Cupids meet at Gallery of Art on the steps
Sing some songs, commiserate, give out
gifts

3:00 pm – March across the mall to the Carousel in front of the
Smithsonian Castle.
If it’s open – let’s RIDE!
Spread merriment to tourists

3:30 pm – Cupids fly to Washington Monument
Continue Merriment, sing, gift

4:00 pm – The Eros Army marches across the Ellipse towards the
White House for photo ops and “spreading some love”. Maybe we’ll pause
on the Ellipse for some shenanigans? It’s up to you!

4:30 / 5:00 pm – Serenade the White House. Cupids dance and
sing for cops maybe? Be silly, improvise street theatre, chant, or
express your political disgust if you like, but just don’t break the law or
piss off the secret service. Fellow cupids may end up assisting the
authorities in hand cuffing you should you decide to be an asshole.

5:00 / 5:30 pm – THE BOTTOM LINE SALOON - 1716 I St Nw
Time for food and beverages to quench
Cupid’s Thirst
Sing some naughty and anti-valentine
songs

6:30 / 7:00 pm - On our way to the next bar, Invade
VICTORIA'S SECRET (1050 Connecticut Ave NW) and ask: “ Is the reason
you don’t carry plus size lingerie because Victoria’s dirty secret is
that she has an eating disorder?” or just shout “Victoria is bigoted
against full figured women!” Don’t forget to give out some gifts! Good
location for giving out Condoms!

7:30 / 8:00 pm - The Bar Hop / Pub crawl truly begins!
First stop: LUCKY BAR!
1221 Connecticut Ave NW
Sing some naughty and anti-valentine
songs, drink, recruit strangers

*After Lucky’s –
Head towards Dupont Circle and maybe Adam’s Morgan to hit some
bars.

Suggested locations:
· Open to suggestions for visiting “naughty locations”
· Club Heaven and Hell - 2327 18th Street, NW
· Madam’s Organ - 2461 18th Street NW

2:00
am – Bars close. Now go home and sleep it off, you sluts!

THE RULES
1. If asked, cupid is responsible for it all: cupid planned
it, we are all cupid, cupid loves you, cupid pleads the
fifth.....ect...... If asked again, and you can’t think of anything witty to say,
just say you are promoting safe sex and give them a condom. That oughta
shut ‘em up.

2. Wear an appropriate costume. Be creative. Make something if
you have to: some form of Cupid, Angel, Pan/faun/satyr, Venus, Fairies,
Horny toads......
Something to think about:
A.) Most likely It will be cold. Or it could be freakishly warm
like it has been lately. Be prepared for MD/DC/VA weather from Sybil:
i.e. be prepared and dress for anything.
B.) Remember that if you do wear a pair of wings, make sure they
are flexible as you don't want to put anyone's eye out as you go in
and out of bars, etc. Don’t have wings but want them? Shit, make ‘em out
of cardboard or paper and duck tape them to your back if you have
to!!!
C.) Wear comfy shoes – we are going to do a lot of walking and
cupid does not want to hear other cupids wine about sore feet.

3. Cupid brings stuff to GIFT. Give out valentines, candy, advice,
kisses, hugs, flowers,
toys, condoms, whatever. BRING SOMETHING!!!!!!

4. Cupid will BE NICE and CLEAN when kids are around during the day.
Weirding out adults and making people laugh is good – traumatizing
children is not! Please keep the daytime outside fun at a rated G/PG
level unless you are sure no families are in ear shot of you. However,
Rated R + material, practical jokes, and dirty dancing are encouraged for
adults and at night time. When the sun goes down.....the freaks come
out at night!

5. Cupid obeys the law and does not piss off the cops. Other cupids
will not bail you out of jail. CUPID WILL NOT DRINK AND DRIVE. Take
metro, get a hotel room, bribe a friend to be a designated driver – or
stick with cola and Shirley temples.

6. Cupid brings money for eating and drinking and pays his /her own
damn bar tab. If Santa can do it, so can Cupid.

7. Cupid may shoot people with harmless soft NERF arrows and squishy
things but cupid will not hurt anyone.

8. Keep your diapers on!!! Cupid will not strip naked unless in an
establishment that permits such states of undress.

9. Cupid will PARTICIPATE, be gregarious and have fun!

10. Cupid can't think of any more rules. If you can think of
anything, email cupid at cupidcacophony@yahoo.com

Since there was no tribe that delt specifically with these kinds of events, I started one. I know there are tribes for single specific events - but not one that was inclusive and would list them all.

So...for silly, fun, artisitc, political, charitable, pointless, volunteer, inclusive community events....come join this tribe. We can share event info, or plan stuff.

No commericial or corporate events.

Zombie mob in vancouver

Check out this awesome zombiewalk in vancouver.
http://www.boingboing.net/2005/08/29/hundreds_of_zombies_.html
They're reporting two or three hundred participants, but it's hard to tell once you get that size. They hit a shopping mall and skytrain and a cemetary.
The SF mob last month
http://laughingsquid.com/2005/07/31/jacob-appelbaums-zombie-photos/ focused on attacking "bystanders" and converting them, whereas it looks like the vancouver mob all started out as zombies. Pretty impressive. I totally want to talk to whoever organized it.

Flash Zombie Mob

Flash Zombie Mob

I have this vision of several hundred people dressed and makeuped like zombies suddenly converging, in character, on an intersected in San Francisco.

To make the whole thing as convincing as possible Id even like to get some people dressed normally just walking down the street to get mauled and eaten by a small pack of us FLASH ZOMBIES.

-- how to do it --

I have never organized a flash mob of any kind but here's how I think we can accomplish this:

- I always envisioned this on being done in the upper height. Good?

- We'll organize several houses in the area for all of us to meet in groups and help each other get dressed and painted.

- Hopefully a selection of us can pool some cash for plenty of fake blood =P

- I'll provide a web site with video of preferred zombie movie clips so we can all practice getting in to a convincing zombie character. Including tips and suggestions =P
(any zombie movie makes out there wanna help?)

- All of the staged victims should have some shared identifiable trait, like a button on there pants or orange shoes laces or something so all of us zombies know who to eat =D

- each group will have at least one synchronized watch with a specific go time alarm set. When its time we all start walking toward the intersection(s) from 2 or 3 of the corners in character.

Then we'll all start:
- mauling a few of our planned victims,
- scratching at windows toward customers in stores,
- NOT screaming brains!!! =]
- slowly zombie walking toward people on the street
- and anything else we deep convincingly zombie like

Then maybe one of us can have a 5 minute timer on there watch and blow an air horn for a second or so and we'll all snap out of it and just walk around like nothing happened. =P

Any other suggestions?
Good idea?
Anyone interested in joining?

Hey, y'all-

I just wanted to let you know that I am a high school teacher and I am taking my students on a photo scavenger hunt field trip into the city near Pier 39. They are the first graduating class in a new charter high school from Gilroy, and I love to organize crazy happenings that let them realize that the world is not always as cold and impersonal and predictable as they think it is.

I would love it if you could help me. Is there any interest? I will continue to post with details as I get them...

Santa Cruz Beast Gathering!

santa cruz's been a bit too sleepy and corporate lately. the beasts are coming to inspect, and i'm not sure they'll like what they find.
wanna join us?

what the hell are we doing?
we're getting beasted-up (pretty minimal costumes, NOT furries), and going to inspect and prowl.
when?
whenever. probably somewhat late some night- 10-ish, maybe. sometime between now and later.
why?
cause santa cruz needs a good inspecting, and a heavy dose of weirdness.
where?
santa cruz, probably. somewhere nearby, mayhaps.
but i don't have a costume! what about me?
if we can't scrounge you one, we'll make you the naked animal. ;)

interested?
drop me a line. i'll let you know when it's happening.

4/3 sf computer flashmob

Supercomputer flashmob planned for SF

Needed: 1,000 laptop owners to help make history. The University of San Francisco hopes to create what it's calling "flashmob 1, the world's first flashmob supercomputer," by inviting 1,000 laptop owners to campus on April 3. Computer scientists will connect the laptops, hoping to create one of the world's fastest supercomputers.

A flashmob supercomputer is created by connecting individual computers via a high-speed LAN to work together as a single supercomputer. A flashmob supercomputer uses volunteers and ordinary laptop PCs to create a supercomputer in a matter of hours. USF students and faculty will run a well-known benchmarking software package on flashmob I and the best benchmark will be submitted for inclusion in the Top 500 Supercomputer list.

Laptops must be at least 1.3 GHz Pentium III/AMD equivalent or better with 256MB of RAM, a 100 Base-T network connection and a CD-ROM drive. Volunteers will be provided with a CD-ROM that contains an operating system, configuration, and the benchmarking software. It does not matter what the computer's current operating system is. Because the software boots from the CD-ROM and runs entirely from memory, the PC's hard drive will never be touched, the university said.

"If this experiment works, possibilities for future computer flashmobs are limitless, solving problems that otherwise would never be investigated because of the expense of supercomputers and their relative scarcity," said Greg Benson, assistant professor of computer science at the University of San Francisco and one of the project's co-creators. "Today, supercomputers are reserved for issues the government deems important, primarily defense research. We envision a supercomputing landscape where individuals can volunteer their computers to causes that are important to them, regardless of governmental support."

Murdoch has just unleashed his newest threat to New York City, the Bubble Heads of Doom, an army of malevolent media automatons programmed to multiply, and zombify unsuspecting earthlings. As a member of the "revel" forces, you have been assigned to meet at one of the following bars at exactly 7pm. Wear or carry silver or green, bring noisemakers if you can and acquaint yourself with your new team of revelers. A mawb agent will soon stop by with instructions of where to go and what to do next. Good luck and Godspeed! The future of this great city depends on you!

1. McHale's Bar, 257 W. 46th St. (W46th & 8th Ave.)
2. Hamburger Harry's Bar & Restaurant, 145 W. 45th St. (Between 6th & Broadway). Note: underage revelers should come here to participate.

Afterparty to be announced at the revel-ation

I reposted on the events listing about a V-day street party. I've got an idea. How about if we do a flash mob at the party? Any ideas? Anyone know how to organize one of these things?

what happened? i waited, i checked my email like any good spy (tho being on a flash mob tribe seems less secretive and spy-like) and nothing! the last email promised something in time for october 25th. what was the plan? did it not work? ive been curious how it could possibly work.
i miss the fun.
bring back the fun!

YVR Flash Mob Details

Synchronize your watch at http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=256

YVR site at http://www.vancouverflashmob.com

THIS IS IT!

You have now been officially invited to the first GLOBAL FLASH MOB.
If you did not know, a FLASH MOB is an inexplicable gathering of a
group of people who perform a whimsical, loosely scripted act in a
specific place for a short period of time.
Be sure to forward this note as quick as possible to other people you
know who might like to join in.

(1) At some point during the day on Saturday, October 25th /03
synchronize your watches. (check the group site for time link if
needed).

(2) MEETING POINT: Between 1:45pm and 2:00pm Global Flash Mob #1
instructions will be available at the Vancouver Art Gallery, Robson
St. side, bottom of the stairs.

(3) Bring a few friends if possible.

(4) At the Art Gallery look for a YVR/GLOBAL FLASH MOB rep with a
rose in her lapel and identify yourself with the code, "Does there
have to be a code?" (…yeah, yeah I know…that's pretty lame, but like
I say, I've been busy!) You will then be passed further instructions.
Read the instructions (away from the meeting point) and then hide the
piece of paper about your person so that it can not be seen.

(5) The instructions will provide the destination of the MOB site,
and you should arrive there ready to go at exactly 2:15pm. If you are
early, stall, if you are late hurry! Although no one will need to
rush.

(6) The instructions will contain everything you need to know. Most
importantly the time to leave the MOB site is by 2:18pm. The
dispersal is just as important to the success of this MOB as is the
arrival. Everyone should scatter as quickly and orderly as they can
and truly disperse.

(7) After the Flash MOB, carry on with your lives as per normal.

(8) Always remember, and never forget, that a FLASH MOB is just fun.
Spread the joy!
